Jeffrey Dahmer
Born in 1960, Jeffrey Dahmer was a serial killer and sex offender that murdered 17 men and boys over the period 1978 to 1991, most of which were African or Asian descent. Born in West Allis, Wisconsin, during his childhood Jeffrey was already showing signs of antisocial behavior – such as a fascination with dead animals – and by the time he was a teenager, he was already an alcoholic. After dropping out of College, his father insisted he enrolled in the American Army, but his alcoholic tendencies meant he was discharged after only two years. In 1982 he moved in with his Grandmother, who lived back in West Allis, and in September 1986 was charged with public exposure, following a previous similar incident.
He served 10 months in prison, following which his Grandmother asked him to move out of her house. In 1988, he was again arrested for molesting a 13 year old boy, and again he served 10 months, but was given 5 years probation ‘for good behavior’, despite having to register as a sex offender. Following his release from prison, Dahmer embarked on a killing spree. After a 14 year old boy was found wandering the streets of Milwaukee naked and drugged, following an attack by Dahmer, the police released the boy back to Dahmer – who subsequently killed and dismembered him.
Over the next month, he killed four more men, but on July 22, 1991, a would-be victim managed to escape and alert the Police. An inspection of Dahmers apartment revealed photos of the victims he had killed, as well as severed heads in the refrigerator and skulls in his closet. Several unsolved murders prior to his arrest were found to be his doing, and he was indicated on 17 murder charges, eventually reduced to 15, and although he plead insanity, he was found sane and sentenced to a total of 15 life terms. After serving only 3 years of his life sentence, he was murdered by a fellow inmate at the Columbia Correctional Institute in Portage, Wisconsin, who beat him to death with the bar of a set of weights.
